About Mara Serena Safari Lodge

Mara Serena Safari Lodge is a lodge in the Mara Triangle, the northwestern part of the Masai Mara National Reserve. It sits on a hill above the Mara River. Its architecture follows the style of a manyatta, the traditional Maasai village. It has a restaurant, a bar, a pool, a spa and a gym. Wi-Fi is free, rooms included. Private parking is free too, but you must reserve it.

Location

The lodge is in the Mara Triangle, west of the Mara River. From its hill, the view stretches over the savanna and the bends of the river. Mara Serena Airstrip is 2 km away as the crow flies, and the lodge runs a shuttle for a fee.

From Nairobi's Wilson Airport, the small planes of AirKenya and Safarilink land on the Mara Serena Airstrip in 40 minutes to an hour. By road, you enter the Triangle through Oloololo Gate, at the end of a dirt track.

Rooms

Standard rooms measure 25 m², with a double bed or two twin beds. The lodge also has suites. Each room has a private balcony facing the river, a seating area and a desk.

All have free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV, a phone, a mosquito net and a fan. The bathroom has a bathtub and a shower, and toiletries are provided. A crib is lent free of charge for children up to 3 years old. For guests over 17, an extra bed can be added on request, at extra cost.

Dining

Breakfast is a buffet. The restaurant also serves a buffet with options for children, and caters for special diets on request. Like the pool, the restaurant and the bar look out over the savanna.

The lodge organizes bush dinners, sundowners and breakfasts beside a hippo pool. For long outings, it prepares packed lunches.

Leisure

The lodge has a pool with a view and a children's pool. The Maisha Spa offers massages, facials and body treatments, manicures, pedicures and hairdressing, as well as a steam shower. Its treatments cost extra. The lodge also runs fitness classes.

It has a game room and offers cooking classes. Shows and visits to a Maasai village cost extra, as does babysitting.

Parks and reserves nearby

The lodge runs game drives in the reserve at extra cost, and it has a tour desk. The reserve gates are open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the entry ticket covers those twelve hours.

From July to October, the wildebeest cross the Mara River in both directions, often at the same crossing points, between the Triangle and the east bank. Hippos and crocodiles live in the river all year. Most of the reserve's 25 to 30 black rhinos live in the Triangle, but few visitors see one.
